Export of Ukrainian goods: obstacles and mechanisms to overcome

The results of the large-scale exporter opinion survey were presented in a column for Ekonomichna Pravda by Viktor Shevchenko, the co-owner of the ZAMMLER logistics group. Viktor Shevchenko is the Chairman of the Export and Investment Support Committee of the Kyiv Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Therefore, he takes an active part in all projects where the interests of Ukrainian companies supplying their products abroad are lobbied.

However, these processes are associated with a number of difficulties: last year, our companies lost significantly in exports. For example, metallurgy lost 12 % of its export volume. Exporters of clothing, footwear and textiles lost 9%. The exact reasons that hindered the export of our goods were found out through a survey conducted by the Export and Investment Support Committee of the Kyiv Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The 124 companies operating in the markets of the EU, USA, Africa and Asia were polled. They identified five reasons that make life difficult for exporters.

Among the key ones is the bureaucracy: delays in obtaining permits and customs clearance. However, according to Viktor Shevchenko, it is quite often that the reason is not the bureaucracy but the incompetence of the companies’ employees in charge of obtaining permits and customs clearance. Follow the link to learn how to overcome this problem and find out what else hinders the Ukrainian exports.
