In November 2024, the ZAMMLER group of logistics companies received the status of an authorised economic operator (AEO), having obtained two certificates at once: AEO-B (confirmation of safety and reliability) and AEO-C (the right to simplify customs procedures). In an interview with Logist.FM, Yulia Klopotiuk, Head of Customs Clearance at ZAMMLER, spoke about the preparation for the application, the benefits and opportunities of AEO status in optimising international transport, and the importance of the AEO status for the company’s business.
She noted that the decision to become an authorised economic operator was driven by the desire to reduce border crossing time and improve the quality of service for customers. In particular, the AEO status provides for the possibility of using separate lanes at checkpoints.
“Let’s remember how many problems Ukrainian carriers had with waiting to cross the state border last year and the year before. That’s why our company was looking for alternatives to reduce the time of international flights as much as possible and provide better services to our customers. Currently, special lanes have been launched only at some points. Some are just being completed, others are trying to combine them with lanes for essential goods. But gradually this system will start working, and then we will receive real dividends from the AEO status,” said Yulia Klopotiuk.
Preparations for obtaining the status began in 2022 and included a review of internal regulations, business processes, updating job descriptions and filling out a self-assessment questionnaire. It took about 5 months after the application was submitted to receive a positive decision from the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
Currently, ZAMMLER GROUP has applied for simplified procedures, in particular, it is waiting for permission to clear customs directly at its own warehouses. This will allow customers to avoid additional time and money spent on visiting customs terminals.
Obtaining the status of Authorised Economic Operator confirms ZAMMLER’s compliance with high standards of safety and reliability, which is important for strengthening the company’s position in the Ukrainian and European markets.
“This status is a confirmation that we meet the high criteria not only in the Ukrainian segment of the economy, but also in Europe as a whole. As a company, we have gained more confidence in our service. We know that our corporate policy, regulations, and working principles are fully compliant with international standards,” said Yulia Klopotiuk.
