ZAMMLER – takes a stand for the return of «Logistics» to the higher education institutions
On the 24th of January 2017, Viktor Shevchenko, the General Director of the Group of Companies ZAMMLER, took part in the discussion platform «Logistics. Job without education?». Also among the participants of the event were – the activists, teachers, students, experts in logistics, representatives of logistics companies from all over Ukraine. The outcome of the meeting was the signing of the submission letter to the Minister of education and science of Ukraine, Lilia Grinevich, asking about the restoration of the specialty «Logistics and supply chain management» in the «List of disciplines and specialties on preparation of the higher education recipients». At the present time, the signatures, of everyone who shares this position, are being collected under the leadership of the Ukrainian logistics alliance. In the April 2015 by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 266 the specialty «Logistics» was excluded from the «List of disciplines and specialties on preparation of the higher education recipients». Logistics «dispersed» in the specialty «Management». In the May 2016 by the Ministry of education and science the specialty «Transport technologies» was established, that apparently is associated with the logistics. However, according to the assessment of the experts, the concept of transport technologies is much wider than logistics. «Logistics – is the complex specialty, that requires special knowledge and approaches. It is not enough to learn the logistics from the point of view only of the economy, transport or management. The lack of knowledge of our specialists reduces their competitiveness in the labour market both in Ukraine and in the international arena, which has the negative effect on the personal success of each individual graduate, and logistic potential of the country as a whole,” said Maria Grygorak, the President of the Association “Ukrainian Logistics Alliance” and the Head of the Academic Department of «Logistics»of the National aviation University.» This words are also confirmed by the practitioners-employers. Viktor Shevchenko, the General Director of the Group of Companies ZAMMLER, said that he has already felt the shortage of the personnel with special education: «More than 180 CV were delivered to the Group of Companies ZAMMLER for the last year on the positions of managers of the auto, marine, aviation transportations and customs brokers, and only 2% of the applicants has the special education. We took 2 of those, who have the necessary understanding of the processes. The logistics specialists have lack of knowledge and basic skills». Ukraine has huge transport and logistic opportunities. According to the assessment of the international experts, the logistics potential of Ukraine is – at least 100 billion $! At the present moment, Ukraine realizes only 6% of this figure. According to the data of the World Bank, in the year of 2016 Ukraine took the 95th place in the world among 160 countries in terms of competence in logistics. This suggests that Ukraine is not paying enough attention to the issue of getting professional skills and competences of future logistics specialists and already working professionals. Currently, according to the State employment service, there are more than 700 vacancies in the logistics sector in the capital of Ukraine. On the portal robota.ua there are more than 1500 vacancies for the request “logistics specialist” in the hole territory of Ukraine. There is the paradox – despite the good salary and a lot of suggestions from job-seekers, the employers have the shortage of professional personnel. The reason of it – is the level of competence. According to the opinion of the experts, the appearance of the separate specialty would increase the level of professional training as well as balance supply and demand in the labour market. «Logistics – is the profession without limits. As a premium specialist, you’ll be in demand anywhere in the world. In Ukraine, students face difficulties at the very beginning of their way – they even do not have the opportunity to get in the University the appropriate level of knowledge, that in the future they will need for the success obtaining in the profession» – said Viktor Shevchenko, the General Director of the Group of Companies ZAMMLER.
